Why are your catios more expensive than what I see online?

What you find online is mostly flat-pack kits mass-produced overseas. Our catios are designed and built from scratch for your specific home, yard, and cats. We use pressure-treated, non-toxic lumber and heavy-gauge galvanized hardware built for Northeast winters — not kits that warp after one season. We also use a patent-pending building method that conceals hardware and structural details, producing a cleaner, more finished look. You are not paying more — you are getting more.

How long does the whole process take from start to finish?

After your consultation and once you move forward: 4 to 6 weeks to design and build your catio in our workshop. Then 2 weeks to finalize, inspect, and transport. Then 1 day or less to install on-site — your cats can start using it the same day. Total: roughly 6 to 8 weeks from green-light to cats inside.

Do your catios hold up in Northeast winters?

Absolutely. We are Hudson Valley natives and built these to survive exactly what we deal with: snow loads, freeze-thaw cycles, wet springs, and humid summers. We use pressure-treated lumber rated for ground contact and heavy-gauge galvanized hardware throughout. Nothing rusts, nothing warps, nothing loosens after the first hard winter.

Do I need a permit to install a catio?

Accepted Answer

In most cases, no. Our catios are freestanding structures — we intentionally leave a small gap between the build and your home rather than anchoring directly to the house. That classifies it as a movable structure, not a permanent addition, which typically keeps it outside permit requirements for most towns across Orange County, Rockland County, and throughout the Northeast. However, every municipality is different. If you belong to a homeowners association, most HOAs require approval before any outdoor structure goes up. We will walk through this with you during the consultation.

Does my location affect which catio style makes sense for my budget?

Accepted Answer

Yes — and it is worth knowing upfront. Window Boxes and Towers are fully built in our workshop, transported, and installed in a single day — travel costs are minimal regardless of location. Klubhouses and Kingdoms require a full week of on-site construction, which makes them most practical for local clients in Orange County and Rockland County. That said, we have built Kingdoms for clients much further away — some customers cover the cost of relocating our crew. We will give you an honest picture of what that looks like before you commit to anything.

Question 6

What does the consultation fee cover, and do I get it back?

Accepted Answer

The consultation fee covers an on-site visit where one of us comes to your property, takes measurements, walks through your space, and starts designing right there. If you move forward with the build, the full fee is credited toward your project — it essentially becomes your deposit. If you decide not to proceed, the fee covers our time and travel.

Do you deliver and install catios outside of New York?

Accepted Answer

Yes — we deliver from New Hampshire to Florida and everywhere along the East Coast. Window Boxes and Towers are the most travel-friendly builds since they are fully completed in our workshop and installed in a single day on-site. Klubhouses and Kingdoms require an on-site crew for about a week. Transport fees increase with distance, but our craftsmanship stays exactly the same no matter the zip code.
